Love Is In Da Blog 28 – “My Old Friend” – Tim McGraw

So for the last entry into Love Is In Da Blog 2019 Bee Halton over at The Bee Writes asks us to choose what we want. This blogging challenge has been so great and fun for me. I happened upon it towards the middle of the month and then you saw that towards the end I played catch up because this was FUN for me!! Because of this challenge I feel like now those of us who participated and visited each others blogs have become old friends. I look forward to continuing to visit your blogs and having you visit mine.

So Bee, my old friend, I will be waiting with baited breathe for next year, no matter what theme you may choose, for Love Is In Da Blog 2020!! For this last entry I have chosen a most appropriate song with Tim McGraw’s My Old Friend!! I was unable to find an official video for this song, but enjoy the song and have a blessed March everyone!!

Lyrics
My old friend, I recall
The times we had, hanging on my wall
I wouldn’t trade them for gold
‘Cause they laugh and they cry me
Somehow sanctify me
They’re woven in the stories I have told, and tell again
My old friend, I apologize
For the years that have passed
Since the last time you and I
Dusted off those memories
The running and the races
The people and the places
There was always somewhere else I had to be
And time gets thin, my old friend
Don’t know why
Don’t know why
Don’t know why
Don’t know why
My old friend, this song’s for you
‘Cause a few simple verses was the least that I could do
To tell the world that you were here
‘Cause the love and the laughter
Will live on long after
All of the sadness and the tears
We’ll meet again
My old friend…goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
My old friend
My old friend
Goodbye
Goodbye

Love Is In Da Blog 28 – Thank You For The Music

Love Is In Da Blog 27 -“Cheek to Cheek”, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” and “Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong”

So this challenge has often been like opening a bag of Lays potato chips, you can never eat just one and I seem to often not be able to choose just one song.  I have chosen three iconic songs in my opinion.

The first is from the movie Top Hat , “Cheek to Cheek” sung by Fred Astaire while dancing with the incomparable Ginger Rogers. This particular scene from Top Hat was utilized in The Green Mile  when they allow John Coffey played by Michael Clark Duncan to see a picture show before his execution as well as at the beginning of the movie.

The second is the iconic song that Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey perform to at the end of the movie Dirty Dancing, Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes’ (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.

My final choice comes from the most romantic and chivalrous scene in any movie, when Richard Gere walks through the paper plant and picks Debra Winger up and carries her in his arms at the end of An Officer and a Gentleman. Another Jennifer Warnes collaboration, this time with Joe Cocker singing Love Lift Us Up Where we Belong. Please enjoy the videos. I have not included the lyrics.

Love Is In Da Blog 27 ~ My favourite Love Song from a Film

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG 11 ~ A LOVE SONG FROM 1959-1968 – “You Can’t Hurry Love” – The Supremes

So for this prompt I picked a song that remained at the top of the charts for the majority of the month I was born September 1966. It was still Number 1 during the week I was born – September 14th, 1966. I love this song and it is still a highly popular song over 50 years later. I chose The Supremes’  You Can’t Hurry Love!!! Enjoy!!

Lyrics

I need love, love to ease my mind
I need to find, find someone to call mine
But mama said you can’t hurry love
No you just have to wait
She said love don’t come easy
It’s a game of give and take
You can’t hurry love
No, you just have to wait
You gotta trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes
But how many heartaches must I stand
Before I find a love to let me live again
Right now the only thing that keeps me hanging on
When I feel my strength, yeah, it’s almost gone
I remember mama saidYou can’t hurry love
No you just have to wait
She said love don’t come easy
It’s a game of give and take
How long must I wait how much more can I take
Before loneliness will ’cause my heart, heart to break?
No, I can’t bear to live my life alone
I grow impatient for a love to call my own
But when I feel that I, I can’t go on
These precious words keeps me hanging on
I remember mama said

Can’t hurry love
No you just have to wait
She said love don’t come easy
It’s a game of give and take
You can’t hurry love
No you just have to wait
She said trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes
No love, love don’t come easy
But I keep on waiting, anticipating for that
Soft voice to talk to me at night
For some tender arms to hold me tight
I keep waiting; I keep on waiting
But it ain’t easy, it ain’t easy when mama said
You can’t hurry love no
You just have to wait
She said trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes
You can’t hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don’t come easy
It’s a game of give and take
You can’t hurry love
No, you can’t

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG 10 ~ A LOVE SONG FROM 1949-1958 – “Love Me Tender” & “You Send Me”

Of course the 1950’s gave us the one and only Elvis Presley, whom my mother loved and cried like a baby when he died, and we received Sam Cooke. Both of these artists were instrumental in their own right in forming how the country saw music of the era and their legacies are still relevant today.

For today’s prompt I have chosen Elvis Presley’s Love Me Tender from 1956 and Sam Cooke’s You Send Me from 1957. Enjoy!!!!

Lyrics – Love Me Tender
Love me tender, love me sweet
Never let me go
You have made my life complete
And I love you so
Love me tender, love me true
All my dreams fulfill
For my darling I love you
And I always will
Love me tender, love me long
Take me to your heart
For it’s there that I belong
And will never part
Love me tender, love me true
All my dreams fulfill
For my darling I love you
And I always will
Love me tender, love me dear
Tell me you are mine
I’ll be yours through all the years
‘Til the end of time
Love me tender, love me true
All my dreams fulfill
For my darling I love you
And I always will
Songwriters: Elvis Presley / Vera Mats
Lyrics – You Send Me
Darling, you send me
I know you send me
Darling, you send me
Honest you do, honest you do
Honest you do, whoa
You thrill me
I know you, you, you thrill me
Darling, you, you, you, you thrill me
Honest you do
At first I thought it was infatuation
But, woo, it’s lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home, whoa
You, you, you, you send me
I know you send me
I know you send me
Honest you do
Whoa-oh-oh, whenever I’m with you
I know, I know, I know when I’m near you
Mm hmm, mmm hmm, honest you do, honest you do
Whoa-oh-oh, I know-oh-oh-oh
I know, I know, I know, when you hold me
Whoa, whenever you kiss me
Mm hmm, mm hmm, honest you do
At first I thought it was infatuation
But, woo, it’s lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home
I know, I know, I know you send me
I know you send me
Whoa, you, you, you, you send me
Honest you do

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG 10 ~ A LOVE SONG FROM 1949-1958

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG 9 ~ A LOVE SONG FROM 1939-1948 – “Bésame Mucho”

“Bésame Mucho” (Kiss me a lot) is a song written in 1940 by Mexican songwriter Consuelo Velázquez. It is one of the most famous boleros, and was recognized in 1999 as the most sung and recorded Mexican song in the world.

According to Velázquez herself, she wrote this song even though she had never been kissed yet at the time and kissing, as she heard, was considered a sin.

She was inspired by the piano piece “Quejas, o la Maja y el Ruiseñor” from the 1911 suite Goyescas by Spanish composer Enrique Granados, which he later also included as Aria of the Nightingale in his 1916 opera of the same name.

The line “Besame mucho, que tengo miedo a perderte después” means “Kiss me a lot, as I am afraid of losing you afterwards.” The word “mucho” may suggest a desire for the kiss to linger, as it may be the couple’s last time being together.

An English-language version of the song was written by Sunny Skylar. The lyrics are different from the direct English translation of the original, but retain the Spanish Bésame mucho. “Bésame Mucho” is also known by translated names such as “Kiss Me Much,” “Kiss Me a Lot,” “Kiss Me Again and Again,” “Embrasse-moi fort,” “Stale Ma Bozkavaj,” “Suutele minua”, “Szeretlek én” and “Mara beboos”.

Today I have chosen the version from one of my favorite jazz performers, Harry Connick Jr.

Lyrics

Besame besame mucho
Each time I cling to your kiss I hear music divine
Besame besame mucho
Hold me my darling and say that you’ll always be mine
This joy is something new my arms enfolding you, never knew this thrill before
Whoever thought I’d be holding you close to me whispering you I adore
Dearest one if you should leave me
Each little dream would take wing and my life would be through
Besame besame mucho
Love me forever and make all my dreams come true
Besame besame mucho
Love me forever and make all my dreams come true

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG 9 ~ A LOVE SONG FROM 1939-1948

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG 8 ~ A LOVE SONG FROM 1929-1938 – “Embraceable You” – George and Ira Gershwin

Embraceable You” is a popular jazz song with music by George Gershwin and lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The song was written in 1928 for an unpublished operetta named East Is West. It was published in 1930 and included in the Broadway musical Girl Crazy where Ginger Rogers performed it in a song and dance routine choreographed by Fred Astaire.

I have chose two versions, the first is from George Gershwin and the second comes from Ginger Rogers originally performed in Girl Crazy in 1930, the version I have included here is from Ginger’s jazz album in 1978 Miss Ginger Rogers!

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG 8 ~ A LOVE SONG FROM 1929-1938

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG 26 – “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” – The Lion King

I have seen a few musicals in my time. For many years I held season tickets for Broadway San Antonio at the Historic Majestic Theatre. Of the musicals that I have seen, the one that had the most spectacular production was The Lion King. I remember when the Disney production of the animated  movie came out and I heard the song written by Sir Elton John, I fell in love with it.

When I saw it performed live in the musical, I had chills from head to toe because it was so magnificent. For this post I have three different versions of the song. The first, obviously Sir Elton John; the second is a performance by the cast of The Lion King – performed live at the Palladium in London and the third is a bilingual version sung by Adrienne Walker and Augustin Arguello from 2017.

Lyrics

I can see what’s happening
What
And they don’t have a clue
Who
They’ll fall in love and here’s the bottom line
Our trio’s down to two
Oh
The sweet caress of twilight
There’s magic everywhere
And with all this romantic atmosphere
Disaster’s in the air
Can you feel the love tonight
The peace the evening brings
The world for once in perfect harmony
With all its living things
So many things to tell her
But how to make her see
The truth about my past, impossible
She’d turn away from me
He’s holding back, he’s hiding
But what, I can’t decide
Why won’t he be the king I know he is?
The king I see inside?
Can you feel the love tonight?
The peace the evening brings
The world, for once, in perfect harmony
With all its living things
Can you feel the love tonight?
You needn’t look too far
Stealing through the night’s uncertainties
Love is where they are
And if he falls in love tonight
It can be assumed
His carefree days with us are history
In short, our pal is doomed

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG 26 ~ MY FAVOURITE LOVE SONG FROM A MUSICAL

Love Is In Da Blog 6 – “My Little Girl” – Tim McGraw

I do not have children, so I don’t know many children’s songs about love. I do however know of a few songs that were written by artists for their children. My favourite has got to be “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw. Enjoy!!!!

Lyrics
Gotta hold on easy as I let you go
Going to tell you how much I love you
Though you think you already know
I remember I thought you looked like an angel
Wrapped in pink, so soft and warm
You’ve had me wrapped around your finger
Since the day you were born
You’re beautiful baby, from the outside in
Chase your dreams but always know
The road that will lead you home again
Go on, take on this old world but to me
You know you’ll always be my little girl
When you were in trouble that crooked little smile
Could melt my heart of stone
Now look at you
I turned around and you’ve almost grown
Sometimes when you’re asleep
I whisper I love you in the moonlight at your door
As I walk away, I hear you say
Daddy love you more
You’re beautiful baby, from the outside in
Chase your dreams but always know
The road that will lead you home again
Go on, take on this old world but to me
You know you’ll always be my little girl
Someday some boy will come and ask me for your hand
But I won’t say yes to him
Unless I know he’s the half that makes you whole
He has a poet’s soul and the heart of a man’s man
I know he’ll say that he’s in love
But between you and me, he won’t be good enough
You’re beautiful baby, from the outside in
Chase your dreams but always know
The road that will lead you home again
Go on, take on this old world but to me
You know you’ll always be my little girl

Love Is In Da Blog 6 ~ Love and Children’s Songs

Love Is In Da Blog 5 – “This Is How You Remind Me” – Nickleback

Okay, everyone is now going to know that yes, I have a little bit of rock in me. I am a fan of Nickleback and some of their songs are hardcore. The song I chose today is a true representation of my relationship with my husband in regards to my chronic relapses and many journeys back into recovery from alcoholism and addiction. There is no one better person to remind you of who you are than your spouse. Often times it is very hard to be reminded, but then others it is by the Grace of God that I have him to remind me of who I am and all the gifts that I have to give in sobriety. I have chosen Nickleback’s “This Is How You Remind Me”!!

Lyrics

Never made it as a wise man
I couldn’t cut it as
A poor man stealing
Tired of living like a blind man
I’m sick of sight without
A sense of feeling
And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am
It’s not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I’m mistaken
For handing you
A heart worth breaking
And I’ve been wrong
I’ve been down
Into the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream
Are we having fun yet?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
It’s not like you didn’t know that
I said I love you and
I swear I still do
And it must have been so bad
Cause living with him must have
Damn near killed you
And this is how you remind me
Of what I really am
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am
It’s not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I’m mistaken
For handing you
A heart worth breaking
And I’ve been wrong
I’ve been down
Into the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream
Are we having fun yet?
Yeah, yeah, yet, no no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
Never made it as a wise man
I couldn’t cut it as
A poor man stealing
And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am
It’s not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I’m mistaken
For handing you
A heart worth breaking
And I’ve been wrong
I’ve been down
Into the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream
Are we having fun yet?
Yeah, yeah
Are we having fun yet?
Yeah, yeah
Are we having fun yet?
Yeah, yeah
Are we having fun yet?
Yeah, yeah, no, no

Love Is In Da Blog 5 ~ A Hardcore Love Song

Love Is In Da Blog 4 – “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” – Alicia Keys

I love this prompt because every once in a while you hear a song that just makes you think. This song makes me think about what would happen if I were to lose Cruz for any reason. Yes we have our issues that we deal with, but even after 18 years we still love each other and are still in love. I chose Alicia Keys’ “Like You’ll Never See Me Again”! I love me some Alicia Keys, just saying!!!

Lyrics:

If I had no more time
No more time left to be here
Would you cherish what we had?
Was it everything that you were looking for?
If I couldn’t feel your touch
And no longer were you with me
I’d be wishing you were here
To be everything that I’d be looking for
I don’t wanna forget the present is a gift
And I don’t wanna take for granted the time you may have here with me
‘Cause Lord only knows another day is not really guaranteed

So every time you hold me
Hold me like this is the last time
Every time you kiss me
Kiss me like you’ll never see me again
Every time you touch me
Touch me like this is the last time
Promise that you’ll love me
Love me like you’ll never see me again
