#SoCS 12/5/20 – List for Sobriety

Linda has given us the prompt of “list” for today’s #SoCS.

Enjoy this lyric video of For King and Country’s “Never Give Up”.

Yesterday I celebrated 11 months of SOBRIETY because I have never given up. My last drink was on January 3rd, 2020. I have not done it on my own, it has taken a lot of work with my sponsor, attending/chairing/sharing in face to face meetings at my home group the Goliad Group along with service work as the Group Secretary; attending/chairing/sharing in meetings at my online home group Global Steps Alcoholics Anonymous that just happens to meet in the hall of In The Rooms.

But there is also an important list of 12 everyday things that must happen if I am to remain SOBER!

  1. When I wake up in the morning, I thank my Higher Power whom I choose to call God for waking me up and not bringing me to.
  2. I ask my Higher Power to assist me throughout the day with keeping my character defects in check – yes, I do have a lot of character defects and I turn my will over everything in my life for the day to Him. His will be done and not mine!
  3. I keep in contact with my sponsor and other alcoholics that help keep me sober.
  4. I go throughout my day doing the next right, best thing to keep me sober.
  5. I share in my online meetings.
  6. I chair online meetings twice a week.
  7. I attend and share in my face to face meetings.
  8. I chair one face to face meeting on Monday evenings at the Goliad Group.
  9. I do spot-check self inventories throughout the day.
  10. I recite the Serenity Prayer sometimes many, many, many times throughout the day.
  11. The most important thing that I do is “I DO NOT PICK UP THAT FIRST FRINK OR ANY OTHER SUBSTANCE I USED TO USE” just for today.
  12. When I go to bed, I thank my Higher Power for ASSISTING me throughout the day to help keep me SOBER just for today!

#1LinerWeds 6/10/20 – We Will Rise Together

For today’s #1LinerWeds, I want to remind everyone that:

If we fall, we will fall together and when we rise, we will rise together.

I know that some people really do not believe that, but I am a firm believer that it is true. This is in the same theme of last week’s post by me.

I recently heard a new song by King and Country(Featuring Kirk Franklin & Tori Kelly)called Together and so I wanted to share the video with you. While I know this is supposed to be #1LinerWeds, however beneath the video I am sharing the lyrics to the song because they are so powerful during this extremely crazy time in this world.

Lyrics

This is for the busted heart
This is for the question marks
This is for the outcast soul
Lost control, no one knows
Sing it for the can’t-go-back
Sing it for the broken past
Sing it for the just found out
Life is now upside down

If you’re lookin’ for hope tonight, raise your hand
If you feelin’ alone and don’t understand
If you’re fightin’ in the fight of your life, then stand
We’re gonna make it through this hand-in-hand

And if we fall, we will fall together
Together

This is for the second chance
This is for the new romance
Sing it for the loved in vain
Overcame, it’s not too late

If you’re lookin’ for hope tonight, raise your hand
If you feelin’ alone and don’t understand
If you’re fightin’ in the fight of your life, then stand
We’re gonna make it through this hand-in-hand

And if we fall, we will fall together
Together (together, together)
Oh, and when we rise, we will rise together

Together, oohWe will rise together, ooh
Listen
If you’re lookin’ for hope tonight (and you’re all alone)
If you’re feelin’ alone tonight (can you feel?)
If you’re in the fight of your life (I can promise)
We’re gonna make it happen, yeah
I will be by your side (by your side)
‘Cause love is in the air tonight (can you feel it?)
All up and see the light (come on!)
Whenever, ever, ever
Just as long as we’re together, say

If we fall (fall), we will fall together
Ha ha, I got you, my brother
Together (together)
I see you my sister
And when we rise, we will rise together
Together (oh)

If we fall (if we fall), we will fall together
Take my hand (together)
Come and stand
When we rise (when we rise)
We will rise together (we will rise together)
Together (that’s right!)

Together we are dangerous
Together with our differences
Together we are bolder, braver, stronger

#AtoZChallenge2020 – New Attitude & Never Give Up

N2020

So this week has been a crazy week and so I am behind three days. Today I will be posting for the letters “N”, “O” and “P”. All in separate posts by the way. For the letter “N” for the #AtoZChallenge I have chosen one of my favorite songs by Miss Patti Labelle,  New Attitude.

This song has always been one of my anthem, especially when I have gone through a really rough patch with alcoholism or cocaine addiction. It is so important that when a person falls into relapse or multiple relapses that each time they come back with new and stronger resolve and attitude regarding their recovery.

Often times addiction, alcoholism, depression, or any other host of mental or physical health issues can cause us to lose hope and feel defeated. I know from experience that it is so important to work hard at having the ability and wherewithal to never give up. That is why I have also seen For King and Country’s  Never Give Up as another one of my anthems.

You can find the lyrics by clicking on the song titles. That’s what’s in  My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!

#AtoZChallenge2020 & #SoCS 4/11/20 – Joy in this Joint

Linda has given us the prompt “joint” for this week’s #SoCS. Wow, I could go so many place with this word some would be appropriate and some others might not. With my #AtoZChallenge2020 theme this year being music from my extensive Apple Music playlist, I have chosen to add some JOY to this JOINT!!

I have chosen two completely different songs. The first is Mandisa’s Joy, Unspeakable and the second one is For King and Country’s  Joy.

The reason I have gone this route is because with all the craziness of COVID-19 and the isolation of having to be sheltered in place other than essential workers and going to get the essentials, I believe that we can all use a little or a lot of joy in whatever joint we are in. If you have a joint or two that are hurting maybe these songs will still put some pep in your step. Perhaps even if you wanted to or needed to for medical purposes, which I have never liked the stuff – I had problems with other things, perhaps you may have a joint – which may bring you joy.

Either way, I hope you enjoy these two songs. You can find the lyrics by clicking on the title. That’s what’s in  My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!

#AtoZChallenge2020 – Fight on Fighter

F2020

I am loving participating in the 2020 #AtoZChallenge. So on my musical journey through the alphabet, I am sharing music that is in my extensive Apple Music collection. Today I have chosen For King and Country’s –  Fight on Fighter.

This song is so important to me because all my life I have been a fighter. Whether it be from when I was little dealing with never enough love from either parent, to their divorcing and my being sent to The Devereaux Foundation in Victoria, Texas for three years because one parent didn’t want me and the other could not handle me. To my struggles with committing stupid property crimes in my teens and going to the Texas prison system 3 different times by the time I turned 22. To my struggles with alcoholism and cocaine addiction during adulthood.  I have always been a fighter and my faith in my Higher Power whom I choose to call God has always got me through stronger than ever. Here I am at 53 and the 9th Step Promises are coming true because I am doing this ONE DAY AT A TIME!!

That’s what’s in  My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!!

Lyrics

I was there on the day that you were changed
You were scared and prepared for the heartbreak
Everything you knew faded out of view
Stole a piece of you

If I could, oh, I would be a hero
Be the one who would take all the arrows
Save you from the pain, carry all the weight
But I know that you’re brave

Fight on, fighter
Don’t let anyone steal your fire
Fight on, fighter
The Spirit is alive inside ya, yeah

There’s a part that you hold that you lock down
Let it breathe, give it wings, set it free now
Time to make ya walk, break the prison bars
Show them who you are

Fight on, fighter
Don’t let anyone steal your fire
Fight on, fighter
The Spirit is alive inside ya, yeah

Stronger than you than you ever thought
I know you’re stronger
Braver than you were before
You know you’re braver
Oh, no, you don’t have to be afraid
Together we’ll face it
So don’t ever stop no matter what
‘Cause you’re gonna make it

Fight on, fighter
Don’t let anyone steal your fire
Fight on, fighter
The Spirit is alive inside ya, yeah
Fight on, fighter
Don’t let anyone steal your fire
Fight on, fighter
The Spirit is alive inside ya, yeah

#SLS for 3/15/2020- “Control”

song-lyric-sunday

Our prompts today are Give/Get/Take/Receive/Send.  Today I choose For King and Country’s “Control”. The chorus says everything!!!  “I GIVE up control”. This is such an important statement for anyone struggling with alcoholism, cocaine addiction or any other type of addiction or even any physical/mental health issue

That’s what’s in My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!!

“Control”

You asked me to let go but I thought I knew better
Afraid of surrender and what I don’t know
I’ve always had a plan but now I’m so weary
And I can’t see clearly, forgot who I am

So won’t You make my eyes Your eyes
My ears Your ears, my tears Your tears
And won’t you make my hands Your hands
My feet Your feet, my dreams Your dreams

I give up control, oh, oh whoa
Body, mind, and soul, oh, oh whoa
Can’t do this on my own, alone, no
I give up control

Can I speak honestly? I’ve still got some questions
Still fightin’ attention, I need some relief
No, I’m no Superman, this is my confession
Been learnin’ my lesson, help me understand

So won’t You make my eyes Your eyes
My ears Your ears, my tears Your tears
And won’t you make my hands Your hands
My feet Your feet, my dreams Your dreams

I give up control, oh, oh whoa
Body, mind, and soul, oh, oh whoa
Can’t do this on my own, alone, no
I give up control

I will raise my voice and sing
I will, I will raise my voice and sing
It’s all I’ve got left to bring
I will, I will raise my voice and sing
I will raise my voice and sing
I will, I will raise my voice and sing, yeah
It’s all I’ve got left to bring
I will, I will raise my voice and sing

I give up control
I give up control, oh, oh whoa
Body, mind, and soul, oh, oh whoa
Can’t do this on my own, alone, no
I give up control
Oh, give up control, oh, oh whoa
My body, mind, and soul, oh, oh whoa
I can’t do this on my own, alone, no
I give up control

Oh, I give up control
(Ooh)
(Ooh)
