Today Jim has given us the prompts of Baking/Bread/Cake/Pie/Picnic for #SLS. I kid you not, I have over 3,000 songs in my Apple Music library and I could not find any songs that met the criteria. So I did what all writers do when they are looking for their topic – I did some research and I found three oldies but goodies. So yes, you are getting a three-fer!!
That’s what’s in My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!
The first is from Bing Crosby called Sunshine Cake which he sung in the movie Riding High in 1950.
We ought to bake a sunshine cake
It does more good than a big thick steak
Start with a tablespoon of trouble
Then add a smile and let it bubble up
We ought to bake a sunshine cake
It isn’t really so hard to make
Fresh tears, a pound or two of pleasure
Kind words you needn’t use a measure cup
It’s not from a recipe book
You don’t have to be a good cook
Or run to the oven and look
With such a simple dish, all you do is wish
So why not bake a sunshine cake
Of course it may keep your dreams awake
Friends say there’s nothing like the flavor
Don’t wait to do your friends a favor
And for goodness sake, let’s bake a sunshine cake
It’s got vitamins A, vitamins B
Vitamins L-O-V-E
If you’re fat, it’s for that
If you’re thin, stuff it in
What’s wrong if you get a double grin
We ought to bake a sunshine cake
It’s not from a recipe book
You don’t have to be a good cook
Or run to the oven and look
With such a simple dish, all you do is wish
So why not bake a sunshine cake
Of course it may keep your dreams awake
Friends say there ain’t nothing like the flavor
Don’t wait to do your friends a favor
And for goodness sake, let’s bake a sunshine cake

The second one is from 1955 and the Mc Guire Sisters called “Theme from Picnic” is a popular song, originated in the 1955 movie Picnic, starring Kim Novak and William Holden, which was based on the play of the same name. The song is often referred to simply as “Picnic.” The music was written by George Duning
On a picnic morning without a warning
I looked at you and somehow I knew
On a day for singing
My heart went winging
A picnic grove was our rendezvous
You and I in the sunshine
We strolled the fields and farms
At the last light of evening
I held you in my arms
Now when days grow stormy
And lonely for me
I just recall picnic time and you
Now when days grow stormy
And lonely for me
I just recall picnic time and you
Songwriters: George W Duning
The third song is from The Four Tops, I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch from .
Ooh
Sugar pie, honey bunch
You know that I love you
I can’t help myself
I love you and nobody else
In and out my life (in and out my life)
You come and you go (you come and you go)
Leaving just your picture behind
And I kissed it a thousand times
When you snap your finger or wink your eye
I come a-running to you
I’m tied to your apron strings
And there’s nothing that I can do (ooh)
Can’t help myself (no)
No, I can’t help myself (ooh)
‘Cause sugar pie, honey bunch (sugar pie, honey bunch)
I’m weaker than a man should be
I can’t help myself
I’m a fool in love, you see
Wanna tell you I don’t love you
Tell you that we’re through and I try
But every time I see your face (can’t help myself)
I get all choked up inside
When I call your name
Girl, it starts to flame (burning in my heart, tearing it all apart)
No matter how I try
My love I cannot hide
‘Cause sugar pie, honey bunch (sugar pie, honey bunch)
You know that I’m waiting for you (waiting for you)
I can’t help myself
I love you and nobody else, ooh
Sugar pie, honey bunch (sugar pie, honey bunch)
I’d do anything you ask me to (ask me to)
I can’t help myself
I want you and nobody else, ooh
Sugar pie, honey bunch (sugar pie, honey bunch)
You know that I love you (love you)
I can’t help myself
No, I can’t help myself, ooh
Sugar pie, honey bunch (sugar pie, honey bunch)
You know that I love you

For today’s #1LinerWeds, I want to remind everyone that:
“If we fall, we will fall together and when we rise, we will rise together.”
I know that some people really do not believe that, but I am a firm believer that it is true. This is in the same theme of last week’s post by me.
I recently heard a new song by King and Country(Featuring Kirk Franklin & Tori Kelly)called Together and so I wanted to share the video with you. While I know this is supposed to be #1LinerWeds, however beneath the video I am sharing the lyrics to the song because they are so powerful during this extremely crazy time in this world.
Lyrics
This is for the busted heart
This is for the question marks
This is for the outcast soul
Lost control, no one knows
Sing it for the can’t-go-back
Sing it for the broken past
Sing it for the just found out
Life is now upside down
If you’re lookin’ for hope tonight, raise your hand
If you feelin’ alone and don’t understand
If you’re fightin’ in the fight of your life, then stand
We’re gonna make it through this hand-in-hand
And if we fall, we will fall together
Together
This is for the second chance
This is for the new romance
Sing it for the loved in vain
Overcame, it’s not too late
If you’re lookin’ for hope tonight, raise your hand
If you feelin’ alone and don’t understand
If you’re fightin’ in the fight of your life, then stand
We’re gonna make it through this hand-in-hand
And if we fall, we will fall together
Together (together, together)
Oh, and when we rise, we will rise together
Together, oohWe will rise together, ooh
Listen
If you’re lookin’ for hope tonight (and you’re all alone)
If you’re feelin’ alone tonight (can you feel?)
If you’re in the fight of your life (I can promise)
We’re gonna make it happen, yeah
I will be by your side (by your side)
‘Cause love is in the air tonight (can you feel it?)
All up and see the light (come on!)
Whenever, ever, ever
Just as long as we’re together, say
If we fall (fall), we will fall together
Ha ha, I got you, my brother
Together (together)
I see you my sister
And when we rise, we will rise together
Together (oh)
If we fall (if we fall), we will fall together
Take my hand (together)
Come and stand
When we rise (when we rise)
We will rise together (we will rise together)
Together (that’s right!)
Together we are dangerous
Together with our differences
Together we are bolder, braver, stronger

I friend of mine on Facebook posted this today and she simply copied and pasted it as I am here. Very powerful suggestions here. I hope everyone will take these words to heart during this stressful time in the United States.
Your black friend is trying to be ok.
Your Black friend in the past 30 days has watched a Black man get shot dead while jogging (Ahmaud Arbery), a Black woman get shot dead while sleeping (Breona Taylor), and the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. Your Black friend has also listened to the President of the United States use segregationist words as a veiled threat.
Your Black friend is trying to be ok.
Please don’t ask us about the looting.
Please don’t chastise us about the rioting.
Please don’t tell us that all lives matter.
Please don’t minimize our fear.
Please don’t bring up Black on Black crime.
Please don’t ask “What about Chicago?”
Please don’t say “if you’d just act like (A Wildly Successful Black Person… Usually Oprah, Obama, Colin Powell, Denzel or Will Smith)”. Please don’t judge us
Your Black friend is trying to be ok.
Listen to your Black friend.
Empathize with your Black friend.
Support your Black friend.
Pray for your Black friend.
Pray with your Black friend.
Just let your Black friend know you really care.
Your Black friend will remember who truly had their back during this difficult time. They will remember who was more concerned about a looted Target. They will remember you posting a thinly veiled and racially offensive meme. They will remember you calling looters “Savages”. They will remember your silence about their Black life and the Black Lives of others.
It’s real easy.
Do whatever you can to help your Black friend out because your Black friend is trying to be ok…..
**Copied and pasted…please pass on!
This post is part of #SoCS for Saturday 5/16/20 and the prompt is “WANT”.
Want to know what’s in My Rattled Cage? Today I just want to share that this has been a great week. Last week I wanted my trip to my birthplace, which was also the birthplace of our 33rd president Harry S. Truman, Lamar, Missouri to go off without a hitch and it did perfectly. I want to share some pictures from that trip for which the main purpose was for me to place flowers on the graves of my mother who passed on Mother’s Day May 10th, 1998 as well as my grandmothers Ruby who passed at the age of 99 on November 2, 2012 and Wanda who passed at the age of 89 on February 11, 2013. I also placed flowers on my brother Dale Jr’s grave he passed when I was a little over three months old. I also placed flowers on my grandfathers and uncles’ graves as well.
After visiting the graveyards I drove a short drive into Pittsburg, Kansas to eat at a family favorite and tradition Chicken Mary’s. Chicken Mary’s and Chicken Annie’s were featured on the Travel Channels Food Wars Season 1, Episode 3 – Kansas Fried Chicken War. I include the link to the episode; you may have to sign in with you cable service provider to watch. I will not spoil it for you as to which restaurant one the war. My Grand ma Ruby was always a Chicken Annie’s Fan which is located one block away from Chicken Mary’s. My Grandma Wand and our family have always been fans of Chicken Mary’s and a trip to Lamar, Missouri isn’t complete until you have been to Chicken Mary’s.
When I started my trip, my mileage was at 754 and when I returned on Monday the mileage sat 2335. I have not shared pictures of my new car because I am still pinching myself as I cannot still believe that I am driving a 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage, so I want to share those as well.
The pictures below are in the order that I took them on my trip as I documented my journey. For me this trip was a rite of passage as I have never driven up. I have always flown, taken the Greyhound or ridden with my sister.
Now I will share pictures of my new car the red detail is what sold me on this car. I thought it was so different. That’s what’s in My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!
The letter “U” is one that is really cool, but there are not as many song titles that do start with the letter “Q”. For today’s entry into #AtoZChallenge2020 I actually do have a great song from the 1970’s. I have chosen Sonny and Cher’s United We Stand. The United States of America has the word UNITED in the country name. In my 53 years I have never seen our country so DIVIDED as it is now. Yes, we have definitely had many decades of different turmoil’s, but during this first term of the current occupant of The White House and now this pandemic has truly shown the horrible true colors of the division in this GREAT country that I live in.
I long for the day when we have a leader that does unite this country and returns us to the status of UNITED to the best of their ability. That’s what’s in My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by!!!!
For united we stand. Divided we fall
And if our backs should ever be against the wall
We’ll be together, Together, you and I
For united we stand. Divided we fall
And if our backs should ever be against the wall
We’ll be together, Together, you and I
And if the world around you falls apart my love
Then I’ll still be here
And if the going gets too hard along the way
Just you call I’ll hear
For united we stand. Divided we fall
And if our backs should ever be against the wall
We’ll be together, Together, you and I
For united we stand. Divided we fall
And if our backs should ever be against the wall
We’ll be together, Together, you and I
The hit song from From Walt Disney’s “Song of the South” released in 1946 was “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah”. Enjoy!!
Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah, I am a little late with my “Z”, but here it is and I made it through another #AtoZChallenge. I am so glad that I participated in this the 10th Anniversary of the Blogging From A to Z Challenge. My first year was in 2015 with my previous blog What’s Rattling My Cage.
So yeah, I did it, we all did it and I cannot wait until next April!!!! Thank you so much to A to Z Team for their hard work with this challenge every year!!
Often when mired down in the chronic pain, manic episodes and just feeling like crud I am reminded by my love for God and Christ that I was found and I thank them and remind them that You Found Me as sung by Mercy Me!!
When each of us begin to fell less that, or that we will always have to struggle through whatever life is throwing at us, just take a listen to this awesome song by Lauren Daigle, You Say!!
Finally this song by Wynona Judd that was sung by her in an episode of Touched By An Angel says it best and I will say that for all of you bloggers that have participated in this #AtoZChallenge, I have loved hopping and reading your posts as a participant myself. Thank you for your visiting my blog as well and always remember You and Your Writings Were Loved!!!!
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary gives the following full definition for XYLOPHONE: a percussion instrument consisting of a series of wooden bars graduated in length to produce the musical scale, supported on belts of straw or felt, and sounded by striking with two small wooden hammers.
When I started my original blog “What’s Rattling My Cage!” in August 2014, I wanted this to be a blog where I would write about politics, relationships, issues in education, and anything else that I chose to write about. That being my current blog has turned into such a wonderful tool for me to help educate and help others who suffer or have loved ones that suffer from alcoholism/addictions to anything (mine so happens to be cocaine); being a proud homosexual in a still homophobic world and living with HIV/AIDS for 18 years at that point. I lost access to the original blog in 2017 and so I began a new blog titled My Rattled Cage in August 2017.
This blog has have continued a tool of my recovery from my alcoholism/addiction to cocaine. There is nothing greater than being able to be open and honest about who you are, where you have been and where you are going. In Chapter Five “How It Works” of the Big Book Alcoholics Anonymous it states, “our stories disclose what we were like, what happened and what we are like now!” How great is it that I have a forum to do just that!! TELL MY STORY!! I love it.
Why did I pick the XYLOPHONE post? Because I want to make as much noise as possible to congratulate myself at the end of the Blogging From A to Z April 2019 Challenge! Why, because I did my first A to Z Challenge in 2014 and have participated since then a few times. I believe I have done just that and I am so proud because I have increased my numbers followers, I continue to gain followers and impressions through WordPress, Facebook and Twitter and my love for blogging has grown exponentially!! You see I may not have a contract and get paid to write – but guess what – I am published and it feels awesome!!!
I love it when I am reminded that my heart and soul are indeed spoken for. Even though I may have my struggles, I know that my God has my back because my heart has been Spoken For. Please enjoy Spoken For by Mercy Me!!
Try as I might I could not find an official audio, lyric or music video for this song, however I like this particular YouTube video of the song.
