#SoCS 12/5/20 – List for Sobriety

Linda has given us the prompt of “list” for today’s #SoCS.

Enjoy this lyric video of For King and Country’s “Never Give Up”.

Yesterday I celebrated 11 months of SOBRIETY because I have never given up. My last drink was on January 3rd, 2020. I have not done it on my own, it has taken a lot of work with my sponsor, attending/chairing/sharing in face to face meetings at my home group the Goliad Group along with service work as the Group Secretary; attending/chairing/sharing in meetings at my online home group Global Steps Alcoholics Anonymous that just happens to meet in the hall of In The Rooms.

But there is also an important list of 12 everyday things that must happen if I am to remain SOBER!

  1. When I wake up in the morning, I thank my Higher Power whom I choose to call God for waking me up and not bringing me to.
  2. I ask my Higher Power to assist me throughout the day with keeping my character defects in check – yes, I do have a lot of character defects and I turn my will over everything in my life for the day to Him. His will be done and not mine!
  3. I keep in contact with my sponsor and other alcoholics that help keep me sober.
  4. I go throughout my day doing the next right, best thing to keep me sober.
  5. I share in my online meetings.
  6. I chair online meetings twice a week.
  7. I attend and share in my face to face meetings.
  8. I chair one face to face meeting on Monday evenings at the Goliad Group.
  9. I do spot-check self inventories throughout the day.
  10. I recite the Serenity Prayer sometimes many, many, many times throughout the day.
  11. The most important thing that I do is “I DO NOT PICK UP THAT FIRST FRINK OR ANY OTHER SUBSTANCE I USED TO USE” just for today.
  12. When I go to bed, I thank my Higher Power for ASSISTING me throughout the day to help keep me SOBER just for today!

Retired St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn Mattered – Where Is the outrage

My sister shared this post on her Facebook page and I want to share because it is so impassioned from this young man Graham Allen. It is long but please watch this video.

From Graham Allen – This is the longest/most raw video I have EVER made…

BUT IF BLACK LIVES MATTER…..THEN DAVID DORN SHOULD MATTER!!

Where is the outrage?! Where are the screams for change?! You can not calim to stand for justice and equality then pick and choose who that belongs to…..ALL OF US MUST DO BETTER!! WE ALL MUST CHANGE!!

I will not be shaken!!!!

I watch the news once a day, normally in the morning between 6 & 7, because if you watch more than that you are only seeing regurgitation of the exact same stories and film at noon, 4, 4:30, 5, 6, 9 and 10.

Every single media outlet is in my opinion inciting more fear, stress, depression and triggers for individuals over the COVID-19 pandemic.

It also does not help that the current occupant of the White House must be in front of the cameras everyday with the people whose noses are so far up his tail and they are constantly praising his leadership!

I have not seen a true president, he has not calmed the country nor the economy down throughout the pandemic thus far. He continues his xenophobic ways by calling COVID-19 the Chinese virus, which does nothing but cause more xenophobic behavior in our country.

COVID-19 does not discriminate as we can see, it is unfortunate that the first truly reported hotspot was in Wuhan China. We must be better than we have been and remember that “BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD, THERE GOES I!!!”

San Antonio is about to be pretty much shut down in the effort to prevent the spread of this horrific virus. Cruz and I are okay with this. Will we hurt financially, possibly but we both have our own underlying health issues and need to be careful. We will continue to live our normal lives and keep as much of our routines as possible.

I also lovingly say, if HIV/AIDS hasn’t killed me in over 23 years and my alcoholism and cocaine addiction off and on over the last nine years hasn’t killed me – no COVID-19 is gonna kill me either!!! I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN!!!

Cruz and I send our thoughts and prayers to everyone everywhere being affected in any way because of COVID-19

Playing Cath Up – Love Is In Da Blog – Day 8

The category for Day 8 was for a Love song about love that lasts forever for #Love Is In Da Blog. You can never go wrong with a country song from the 1980’s, Randy Travis’  “I’m Gonna Love You Forever”!

That’s what’s in “My Rattled Cage”! Thanks for stopping by!!

Lyrics

You may think that I’m talking foolish
You’ve heard that I’m wild and I’m free
You may wonder how I can promise you now
This love that I feel for you always will be
But you’re not just time that I’m killin’
I’m no longer one of those guys
As sure as I live, this love that I give
Is gonna be yours until the day that I die
Oh, baby, I’m gonna love you forever
Forever and ever, amen
As long as old men sit and talk about the weather
As long as old women sit and talk about old men
If you wonder how long I’ll be faithful
I’ll be happy to tell you again
I’m gonna love you forever and ever
Forever and ever, amen
They say time take its toll on a body
Makes a young girl’s brown hair turn gray
Well, honey, I don’t care, I ain’t in love with your hair
And if it all fell out, well, I’d love you anyway
They say time can play tricks on a mem’ry
Make people forget things they knew
Well, it’s easy to see it’s happenin’ to me
I’ve already forgotten every woman but you
Oh, darlin’, I’m gonna love you forever
Forever and ever, amen
As long as old men sit and talk about the weather
As long as old women sit and talk about old men
If you wonder how long I’ll be faithful
Well, just listen to how this song ends
I’m gonna love you forever and ever
Forever and ever, amen
I’m gonna love you forever and ever
Forever and ever, forever and ever
Forever and ever, amen

Playing Cath Up – Love Is In Da Blog – Day 6

Day 6 was for a Love song about weather or with weather in it for #Love Is In Da Blog. I have actually chose two versions of I Can’t Stand the Rain”. The first is by Ann Peebles from 1974 and the other is from Tina Turner from 1984. But I have also chosen one of my favorite Eurythmics songs “Here Comes the Rain Again”.

Playing Catch Up – Love Is In Da Blog – Day 5

Day 5 was for a Love song about making love for #Love Is In Da Blog. While I was never a huge Boys to Men fan, “I’ll Make Love to You” is such a great song. It is probably one of the only songs of theirs that I really know and love!!!
