Here we are at the letter “I” in the 2020 #AtoZChallenge. So on my musical journey through the alphabet, I am sharing music that is in my extensive Apple Music collection.
Today I have chosen Mercy Me’s I Can Only Imagine. The very first time I heard this song I was driving a friend’s car and the radio was on 91.3 KLOVE. It was in March 1999 just a little less than a year since my mother passed on Mother’s Day, May 10th 1998. The song was written and included on the band’s independent album The Worship Project, but did not become a huge hit until it was released on their album Almost There in October 2001.
When I first listened to this song I had to pull over and stop because I began balling like a little baby. This song for me had so much meaning and connotation to not only my savior Jesus Christ, but my mother, grandparents, even my brother who died when I was 6 months old. I can only imagine what it will be like when I am reunited with those loved and now included in that list are of course my paternal grandma Ruby and my maternal grandma Wand. While some don’t necessarily believe that there is a Heaven for pets – I know that when I get there I will a pack of four legged babies that will knock over and just smother me with kisses.
Today if I am singing this song at home all of our four legged babies gather around me and start loving on me because they love when I sing to them no matter what song, but especially this song. Yes, even today, 21 years later this song can still bring me to tears.
I hope you enjoy this entry that just happened to be chosen for a perfect day Good Friday April 10th 2020. I hope everyone has a BLESSED and SAFE Easter. That’s what’s in My Rattled Cage, thanks for stopping by.
When I walk, by your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see
When you face is before me
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine when all I would do is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine hey ya ah
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in Your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine hey ya ah
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine
