Love Is In Da Blog 7 ~ A Love Song from 1919-1928 – “Blue Skies” – Irving Berlin

I love this song because it speaks to how it is when you are in love. Everything is so much more clearer and beautiful. With music and lyrics written by Irving Berlin in 1926, this song was performed by Belle Baker in the musical Betsy. “Blue Skies” was recorded by several singers from diverse genres, including Benny Goodman and Willie Nelson. The song was also featured in several films including The Jazz Singer.

I have actually chosen to versions of videos. The first is a Ella Fitzgerald singing. The second is of Frank Sinatra singing with a video montage of pictures and information about Irving Berlin.

Lyrics
Blue skies smiling at me,
Nothing but blue skies do I see.
Blue birds singing a song,
Nothing but blue birds all day long.
Never saw the sun shining so bright.
Never saw things go oh so right.
Noticing the days hurrying by.
When you’re in love, my my how they fly.
Blue days, all of them gone.
Nothing but blue skies from now on.
Blue skies smiling at me.
Nothing but blue skies do I see.
Blue bird singing a song.
Nothing but blue birds all day long.
Never saw the sun shining so bright.
Never saw things go oh so right.
Dig those days hurrying by.
When you’re in love, my my how they fly.
Blue days, all of them gone.
Nothing but blue skies from now on.
Nothing but blue skies from now on.
Songwriters: Irving Berlin
